Building Overview

This Old Space is the Perfect Workplace.History continues to be written at the old Studebaker Distributors. From the very beginning, our vision has been to preserve and restore a piece of El Paso’s history and to further develop its story. Today, the Sergent-Folk Chevrolet Dealership, located at 311 Montana Avenue, has been reimagined into a modern, shared office space that provides the features, amenities, and conveniences that businesses need to succeed. We have preserved the old and complimented it with the new. See how the space has been transformed. The confluence of a vision and a buildingChris Esper, founder of Working Capitol, was in his final year of his Master of Architecture program at Harvard University when he first conceptualized a work space like Working Capitol. He formalized the concept and made it his master’s thesis. Chris eventually made his dream reality with his colleagues at Root Architects when he returned to his hometown and found the ideal property on the corner of Montana and Kansas. In determining how this century old, commercial building could host a modern, work environment, Root Architects had to first consider how work had changed over the past decade; understanding that 1 in 4 American adults were working remotely–a number that is projected to increase significantly each year.Root Architects then combined their vision and style with the space at 311 Montana Ave. The result was a multidimensional, shared office space with 5 unique types of office environments (shared work table and semi-private desks in a common lounge, 2 person, private offices and 6 person, private office suites. For those who primarily work from home but who need a business address and a space to meet with clients, there is the virtual office plan). The style of design, which the architects coined as “Southwest Deco,” mixes clean lines and contours with the texture and color of classic southwestern materials native to the structure. You’ll notice these in the fine details of the tabletops, railings, windows and doors; and the textures of the walls and floors. The open plan capitalizes significantly on natural lighting from the oversize windows, which makes the space even more pleasant and enjoyable by its members.
